Blameless children

God calls us to live blameless lives, to be unstained by the world around us, to be without flaw in a very flawed world, to shine like a light in this present darkness.

But what would that life look like?

God tells us...

Philippians 2:14-16
Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and unstained, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.

We see two things about the blameless life: what it throws off and what it puts on.

To shine as a light, we must throw aside grumbling and arguing. We must hold our opinions in open hands. This doesn’t mean that Christians never speak out against error or lies, but there is a certain constant negativity that has no place in the life of Christ’s people. We must be known as a people who long for peace, not a people who are never satisfied with anyone but ourselves.

As we throw aside our opinions, there is one thing that God’s blameless children never throw aside, even though the world wants them to - the word. The word is our life, the source of our hope, so we hold it fast. If we want to shines as lights, the word of God is the lamp we thrust before us as we travel these darksome paths. And we grip it tightly.

Want to be blameless? Want to be unstained? Want to be flawless in a flawed world? Want to shine as a light?

Then do it. Obey. Work out your salvation as God works in you.

Set aside a life of constant complaining and, in joy, hold firm to God’s word.

It may cost you everything but it will leave you with a life filled with gladness and rejoicing and absolutely no regret.
